Here are some highlights from the last couple weeks...
ALMOST CHRISTMAS - - We did snow globe writing about being trapped in a snow globe! Then we made snow globes with our pictures inside of it like we were trapped!
WINTER ART - - We used blue and white paint to paint a wintery night background and then we used black paint to make trees, fences, ground and shadows.
WORLD MAP - - Mrs. McKenzie traced a giant world map onto the bulletin board, then we ripped up pieces of paper and filled in all of the continents!
BABY CULLY - - Baby Cully came to visit our class. He has big beautiful eyes and he has grown. Now he can lift up his head! He also has lots of hair!
PROJECT FAIR - - We are now able to do project fair! Lots of our class is interested in joining!
JINGLE BELL HOP - - Later today we have our dance-a-thon! We've been raising for our school and now today we get to dance!
OWL VISIT - - We had Dr. Duncan come in with his owl Rusty. We got to see him fly around the room.
Those are just a couple of the things we've done over the last couple weeks. It's DEFINITELY been a busy one!
Check back next week!

Another 4 Day Week!
What a week!
We did some writing about the important things about fall. We thought it was important to know that Halloween is in the fall, raking the leaves is important and going trick or treating is SUPER important!
Today we had Roots of Empathy!!! Our baby is baby Cullen but we call him Baby Cully! He is cute. Here are 4 things you need to know about Cully:
1. He likes to look at the lights!
2. He likes to sleep in his moms arms!
3. He likes music and isn't scared of loud noises!
4. He is really small and has beautiful big brown eyes!
Wednesday we had our fun lunch! It was pizza from Dominoes and ice cream from Sargent Sundae! 6 kids had pumpkin ice cream and 7 kids had marble ice cream!
We also used our sketching skills to sketch a picture of our new class mascot - Sam the Grey Wolf!
For our bulletin board, we are making Canadian Citizen wanted posters! We think people should come to Canada because it's beautiful, we have rights and responsibilities and Canadians make sure everyone is included and safe!
Remember, Friday is NO SCHOOL!

Sam the Grey Wolf!
Today we did an animal election and we voted for a mascot for the grade 3 students! There were 5 candidates - Charlie the Raven, Desneiges the polar bear, Max the walrus, Neevee the caribou and Sam the grey wolf...
Guess who won?
SAM THE GREY WOLF!
Did you know that in Canada when you vote you can't pick 2 people on the same ballot. Also, you can only vote in Canada if you are a Canadian citizen and 18 years old or older!
Guess what? We earned our BROWNIE PARTY! Once we are done our blog, we get to eat them! We baked them this morning.
In science, we were testing how strong straws are. We put a straw between 2 chairs and then hung a basket on it and filled it with magnets. 10 straws held 17 magnets!
We had Mr. E for sketching this week! We sketched pokemon, kirby and the pink panther! We also learned about structures with him and sketched the Taj Mahal, a volcano, a mountain and other structures!
Have a great weekend!

Gobble Gobble!
Here are some of the highlights from the week!
We did thanksgiving art this week. We made turkeys that said "Save the Turkeys, Eat More..." We thought people should eat more bacon, ham, french fries, pizza, lamb, tacos and so much more! We had to give 3 ideas of why you should eat something else other than turkey!
This week our math centre theme was thanksgiving! We played turkey trot, odd and even turkey game, turkey bump and we did multiplication turkeys and a worksheet centre.
We worked with an artist today to work on sketching! We did a 1 minute, 3 minute and a 5 minute sketch and then we compared them! It was so awesome.
We had westwood readers come and read stories to our class. They read us Smelly Socks and The Cat in the Hat.
Heres to another great week!

Oh what a week!
We had an awesome week!
We did writing about being CANADIAN! They are called I Am Canadian. We are all lots of different things but we are all still Canadian! We made a giant Canada flag out of ripped construction paper. It's now hanging in our classroom!
We made autumn pom-poms! We took eye droppers to drop water mixed with paint on the tissue paper pom poms (they were from Mrs. McKenzie's wedding - her mom made them and it took her lots of hours so we were very thankful)! They are going to make awesome centrepieces and door hangings!
We did the Terry Fox run this week! It was awesome and we got tattoos and stickers. Our class raised $42 dollars alone!
This week we also switched table spots!
We also had to say goodbye to Mrs. Moses because she is having a baby very soon! We made her cards and we gave her ideas for baby names like Melody, Lucas, Todd and so much more!
Have a great week!

Another week of awesome-ness!
Hello families!
Another week of fun is come to an end.
For math, we're working on skip counting by 3's and we played a skip counting game! We're also working on writing our numbers in math too!
We went to the NEW art room for the first time this week so we could do our self-portraits for sun glass summer writing. We wrote about our cool summers on our cool sunglasses. They turned out COOOOL!
In science, we started learning about structures and materials! We looked at the 10 weirdest structures in the WHOLE world! The coolest one was the building in Montreal that has all the blocks stuck together! We are also reading structure books, learning about different structure materials AND using the iPads to research cool buildings.
CHEESE!! Today was also PICTURE DAY! We had to take lots of class photos because kids kept looking SIDEWAYS! Eeek!
ALSO, REMEMBER TO...... Return your gym clothes Monday!
Overall, it's been a blast!
Have a great weekend!

The Great First Week in Room 10
This week was fantastic!
We made "figure me out" posters! We put our face on it and numbers about our life but you had to solve the math clue to find the answer!
We did math centres this week! We played a bump game, we did whiteboard math, we did number patterns and we graphed our names!
We played a spin and learn game and learned about each other!
Today we made our room 10 beliefs. The most important one that we put was...
"Treat otters the way you want otters to treat you!"....
We have to explain, we said OTTERS instead of OTHERS because we read a book about otters and manners! We thought it was funny so we use it now.
We had morning kindergarten reading buddies and they sat and listened to our stories. They were cute and so little still!
Check out a video about our first week!
Overall, we had a great, awesome, amazing, blast of a week!

Goodbye Ms. Moffatt....Hello Mrs. McKenzie!
I hope all of you have had a fantastic summer filled with lots of good laughs with great people!
My summer has been pretty amazing because... this summer, I got married!
It was possibly one of the best days of my life and I cannot wait to share all the details and pictures with you all in September. In the mean time, here's a sneak peek at a couple of my wedding photos!
Can you believe we're back to school in just over a week!?
See you soon!

It was a GRAPE day!
This week was fantastic!
In Math, we did 3D shapes using grapes and toothpicks! We made cubes, rectangular prisms, triangular prisms, triangular pyramids and square pyramids! It was fun and delicious!
We played French bingo with our fruit and vegetable words! Everyone got a prize and some people got 2 or 3!
For science, we used cars to test friction outside! It was fun. When the cars were on the cement, they didn't move that well! We still have to test them on the floor and on the carpet.
Today we wrote acrostic poems about OURSELVES! They look GREAT!
The week was great and busy! Have a nice LONG weekend!!!
Love,

A Note to Madden...
We missed you this week! Hope you are doing well and we can't wait until your back next week! Next week will be lots of fun so see you then!

Lighthouses and Ice Cream
This week was a fantastic week!
We learned about lighthouses and we painted lighthouses. We sketched a lighthouse then used water colour paints and oil pastels to fill it in with colour! They turned out fabulous and beautiful.
We are learning about 3D shapes! We went around the school and had a scavenger hunt for 3D shapes using the iPads. We had to take a picture of the item we found and say what shape it was. We used that to make a 3D shape book! We are also doing math centres with 3D shapes!
We learned about friction. Friction is stops movement. It happens when 2 objects rub together. To test out friction, we slipped around the classroom in our socks, in our runners and then in bare feet! We found the most friction happened when you were bare foot! We slid around outside on the rocks, gravel, cement and grass! We found the grass had the MOST friction with our shoes! We even raced in the gravel, on the grass and on the concrete! It was the easiest to run on the grass.
Today was our last spelling test and we did AWESOME!! We did so awesome that Ms. Moffatt gave us an ice cream scoop! She also gave us ANOTHER ice cream scoop for having neat printing. So now we have 5 ice cream scoops and we only need 5 more for our ice cream beach party!
Have a great weekend!

The Adventures of Fort Whyte!
This week we went to Fort Whyte! We got to go critter dipping - we went onto the dock of a swamp and used nets to catch little creatures like leeches, shrimp, tadpoles, side swimmers, and so much more! We also went on a long walk and saw a tipi and the treehouse! The walk was fun! When we were on our way to the treehouse, Ms. Moffatt saw a snake and she freaked out and screamed! When we went up into the treehouse and looked out, we saw bones! We also learned new words like marsh! Overall, it was the best field trip ever!
On Wednesday, we painted Sunsets and Sailboats! We used water colour paints and water colour paper! We used permanent marker to outline them!
Today and yesterday we have been doing some little math tests for the report cards because it's almost the end of the year! Only 5 more weeks left of school! We are sad but also excited to be in grade 2 and 3!
It was a fantastic week!

The Fruit Salad Week
Today we made a fruit salad! We are talking about ways to be healthy and how to eat right! We learned somethings you don't think are that healthy, actually are! And we also learned that eating healthy can be delicious! We should have 2-3 servings of fruit EVERYDAY!
In math, we learned a new math game that worked on subtracting nine! Our real is.... TAKE AWAY 10 AND GIVE ONE BACK! Sooooo...
47 - 9 = 38 (because we take away 10 (37) and then give one back (38)!
We had fun lunch and it was very awesome! It was Boston Pizza! Yum yum!
We are learning about Lunenburg and this week we learned about the Bluenose!!
Did you know....
- The bluenose was the fastest sailboat during the races!
- It was built and launched in 1921!
- They built a Bluenose 2 exactly the same and then they sold it to Nova Scotia for $1.00!!!!!!
- The original Bluenose crashed into the coral reef and sank to the bottom of the ocean!
- People are still trying to find pieces of it!
- It was sold out of Canada in the 1940's.
- It's called the Bluenose because whenever people put their mittens to their noses when building, it used to turn blue so they called it the BLUENOSE!
Have an awesome, warm and sunny weekend!
Also - Sunday is Maddy's birthday!! Happy 7th Birthday Maddy!

Crunch Crunch!
Ha ha ha! We had a storyteller come to our school named Jamie! He told us stories and helped us act out fun things! He was really funny. We acted out a story about a princess and a hippo!
Sssssscribble!! We also started some new math centres all about measurement! We used different types of rulers to measure inches and centimeters. One of the stations we had to take a ruler and measure 'things' around the room - we had to find stuff that was 1 inch, 2 inches, 3 inches... all the way up to 12 inches!
Yuuuuum!!! We earned our last pizza slice so today we are having a pizza party!! We ordered 2 cheese pizzas and 1 pepperoni pizzas and we get fun drinks! We are very excited for lunch but we still have to wait 20 minutes!!
They lived happily ever after!! Yesterday some of our classmates (Sophia, Brooke, Katey, Hayley and Maddy) performed a readers theatre play to us called The Three Little Elephants and the Big Bad Mouse (based on the three little pigs). It was funny and cool and the girls did awesome! Now we have another group of kids (Madden, Mahina, Vance, Ben and Dreden) who are rehearsing for next weeks performance!
We had so much fun this week! We are all excited for pizza... now it's only 15 minutes until it gets here!
Have a GREAT, AWESOME, AMAZING, SUPER, FUN long weekend!
